President Shimon Peres visits Shalva

On the 3rd of December 2009, President Shimon Peres visited the Shalva Center on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, to examine the unique therapeutic framework practiced at Shalva, which provides peace of mind and long-term support to disabled children and their families.  The President was presented with the model for the New Shalva Center, an up and coming center which will be the most advanced establishment of its kind.   The visit ended on a hopeful note of advancing the special needs community in Israel and their integration within Israeli society.

The President was greeted by the founder, Kalman Samuels, Mrs. Esther Wachsman, Mr. Nachum Itzkowitch, Welfare Office CEO, other Welfare Ministry officials,  Shalva children and their families, staff members and volunteers.  Following the reception throughout the various floors at the Shalva Center, the President met with children and parents from various social sectors, and was introduced to the many progras at Shalva.   In addition, the importance of social integration was discussed, and the manner in which Shalva promotes this important cause.  At the end of the tour, the President watched the Shalva Band integrated band, performing a special song for the occasion.
