Each year, SHALVA’s children with special needs enjoy a two week summer break, far away from the hot city. For the parents of these children, it is difficult to remember a time when they could not rely on the desperately needed renewal that is a result of this critical break.

Shalva's First Steps, a resource book for parents of special-needs children, is invaluable resource for parents of special-needs children.

First Steps, A Parents Resource for Babies with Special Needs has just been published by Shalva's Me & My Mommy program.

This 40 page guidebook contains professional advice and information on how to care for the special-needs child from birth to toddlerhood, and also features personal testimonials from other parents of children with special needs.

The guidebook, published in Hebrew and English, was distributed to hospitals, obstetricians, pediatricians, social workers and other professionals throughout Israel who work with new parents, and has been widely praised by all. One doctor is quoted as saying "This guidebook goes a long way to educate parents in making the best choice for their special-needs child."
