SHALVA Band

Playing to a Whole New Beat

The Shalva Band provides an opportunity for children to express themselves through music. Directed by Shai Ben-Shoshan, the band has a large repertoire of songs and a great capacity for learning new material. Children in the band vote on which songs they would like to perform and every child is paired with an instrument that allows for his development. Instruments include percussion, guitars, organ, flute and a harp.

Since its inception, the band has performed at many places and events. The band has debuted at the Hartman High School children's fundraiser for underprivileged families and at the municipality's Bar-Mitzvah event for orphaned children, at President of Israel Shimon Peres’s home, at the Jerusalem's Mamilla mall and many other exciting events and places. In this way the children are taught that they are worth watching and that they have something to give to society.

The SHALVA band shatters misconceptions about the special needs population, proving how talented and capable they are.

Performing in the band increases the children's self-esteem and belief in his\her abilities to perform and learn something new.
