The Association for Mentally & Physically Challenged Children in Israel

Jerusalem Marathon

Every year, a delegation of runners from all around the world, come together to represent SHALVA in the Jeruslam Marathon. Team SHALVA consists of dedicated families, friends and supporters with an affinity for running, and push themselves that extra mile for SHALVA.

Runners have the chance to meet in the world's most culturally diverse and ancient city.  The route takes participants past the picturesque vistas and historical sites which appear all through the pages of history.

The debut year of the marathon featured SHALVA children participating in a special 400 Meter dash. The initiative was cosponsored by the City of Jerusalem in an effort to raise awareness of special needs throughout the city. Some children sprinted, some walked and others were pushed in a wheelchair, but every child came away a winner, having faced their personal challenges.

The most recent marathon welcomed over 240 Team SHALVA members, with runners from the US, Canada, UK, Mexico and Israel. Runners have the option of doing the full marathon, the half marathon or the 10K. Groups of runners who have run with SHALVA include the elite Duvdavan unit of the Israeli army, Bnei Mitzvah children, a group of Cambridge University college students, Kushner Highschool students, and scores of gap-year participants.

To sign up for the marathon or for more information please visit our Marathon Site.

The marathon serves as a way for participants to connect to SHALVA while pushing themselves to limits they didn't previously know were possible.
