Art therapy is a branch of psychotherapy that offers an alternative language which is non verbal, and symbolizes emotional and sensory self expression. Art therapy begins where words end or where there is no ability to specify feelings and emotions. This treatment is appropriate for those who struggle with verbal expression as well as those who are verbally proficient, but struggle to make a connection with the deeper layers within themselves.
The language of art creates a bridge between their internal and external worlds and helps the child integrate the two. In art therapy an emphasis is placed on the power of human strength and action. Art therapy is done in small groups and reveals a willingness to experiment with different art materials.
Therapy through art allows for spontaneous release, which offers the child a way to connect with his creative self, to connect to his strengths and fulfill his potential growth.
