Shalva Band Declared “Winner” of Eurovision 2019 by World Media and Social Networks 

The Shalva Band took to the largest live music event in the world – Eurovision 2019 – and totally blew their audience of almost 200 million away.

The Shalva Band rose to fame after entering the finals on the Israeli TV show “Rising Star”. The popular reality show determines which musical act will represent Israel in the annual Eurovision competition, which took place in Tel Aviv this year. Despite being the likely winner, the band dropped out of the competition when it became clear that participating in Eurovision would obligate them to break Shabbat.

Having captured Israel’s hearts and becoming a household name, the Shalva Band was invited to represent the best side of Israel during a special performance at the Eurovision second semi-finals. Their performance brought the international audience to their feet with roaring applause. The band’s inspiring messages of inclusion, representation of the human spirit, and talented music won them media buzz and numerous invitations to perform around the world.

The Shalva Band is comprised of eight talented musicians and vocalists with disabilities who began their journey at the Shalva National Center in Jerusalem. Rising to national stardom through the “Rising Star” television show, the Shalva Band gave up their potential spot to represent Israel as a competitor at the Eurovision Song Competition due to the performance taking place on the Sabbath.

The Shalva Band was granted their well-deserved spot on the Eurovision stage as guest artists at the Eurovision semi-finals. “We dreamt together and here we are on the biggest stage we could imagine. Don’t stop dreaming, no matter what people say,” Dina Samteh, Shalva Band vocalist, addressed the audience in her message prior to the band’s rendition of “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman.
