The walls in the Metzudat Adumim post shook to the thunderous and enthusiastic swearing in of five new members of Israel’s Border Patrol – young men in the first class of our Rising in Rank program.  The program operates in collaboration with Shalva, the Israel Defense Forces and the Jerusalem College of Technology.  The ceremony followed months of training and preparation, as with all new inductees.

At the ceremony attended by Border Commander Yaakov Shabtai, the new police officers received uniforms, berets and their pins. These ambitious and idealistic young men will now take on volunteer jobs in the canine patrol, the cavalry and in the logistical department of Israel’s Border Patrol.  In addition, These young men, who live at Shalva, will continue their religious academic studies.

Kalman Samuels, visibly moved, remarked that Shalva started with 5 children, similar to the Rising in Rank program and that our expectation for the expansion of the program with Israel Border Police is very similar.

We wish our new inductees a safe and satisfying period of service.
