Once again this year, close to 300 children, plus a similar number of staff and volunteers spent an unforgettable week in northern Israel, at the Shalva Sleepaway Camp. An extension of the after-school program and respite program, Shalva’s sleepaway camp gives the campers an exciting fun-filled week in beautiful scenic surroundings, and at the same time gives their parents the opportunity to possible take a little vacation of their own, or to focus their undivided attention on the rest of the family, secure in the knowledge that their special needs child is in the best of hands and enjoying herself as well. The camp included trips to amusement parks, boating, petting zoos, cable cars, musical events, arts and crafts activities, and of course, swimming. One of the closing events of the camp was a giant “happening,” including a drumming circle, a bubble machine, a DJ, inflatables, and more, culminating in a concert by our own Shalva Band. The children’s excitement and enjoyment were evident wherever you looked. We can’t wait until next year!
