Who Is Independent Living For?

Shalva’s community apartments are designed for adults aged 18 and over who are recognized by Israel’s Department of Welfare Disabilities Administration.

What does a typical day look like for residents?

The day begins at home with a light breakfast, followed by getting ready and heading out to work or vocational training. Afternoons include classes, leisure activities, outings around the city, or free time with friends at home. Evenings are centered around togetherness, residents take turns preparing dinner, and enjoy a routine that feels familiar, stable, and meaningful.

The intake process is gradual and selective, and acceptance is not guaranteed. Candidates are admitted only after a careful assessment of suitability. The process includes meetings with the candidate and family, professional evaluations, review by the Ministry of Welfare, and final approval by an admissions committee. Families are supported and guided throughout every step of the process.
